Where You From? Mr. Phillips featuring Joe Iiimpala

Where You From?

Mr. Phillips photo via Bless Enterprise

While visiting family in Toronto I received a message from Mr Phillips in Miami Mr. Philips .  Mr. Phillips sent me on a quest to meet an artist named Joe Iiimpala who sings the vocals on his unreleased song called “Where You From”.
I caught up with Joe Iiimpala at the Dave and Busters in Vaughan, Ontario.

“We meet in the Lobby of a Studio in Los Angeles while we were Both recording in Different Rooms of the Facility.  April, 2016, in LA”  Mr. Phillips

Artist, Song Writer and Music Producer Joe Iiimpala creates rock, dancehall, reggaeton and house music.

Upon meeting Joe Iiimpala, I let him know that I was told by reggaeton song writer, artist and music producer Mr. Phillips that there’s an artist in Toronto that I needed to meet and that Phillips spoke highly of him.

When asked how he met meet Mr.Phillips?  His response was:

“I was working on my own EP and  ” Where You From” is a record that I had  in mind to add to it.  Phillips and I  would have conversations about making a record together and that was the song.  I made the beat, wrote the words and sent “Where You From ”  to Mr. Phillips.  Phillips really liked it and I originally had him as a feature but it kind of flipped I told him that I wanted him to use it for his new album Spanglish King!  I am singing on the vocals and once I have my Ep ready, I will ask Mr.Phillips to make a guest appearance on it. The energy that we both have is great, we flow off of each other!  The song has an Afro Beat, with Reggaeton, Hip Hop and R&B to give it a stir a nice whip as if I was cooking food by throwing in spices to have a commercial sound.” Joe Iiimpala

Kassandra Tomlinson is a premier photographer in the Toronto  Fashion and Entertainment scene. I am very lucky to have her share photography tips for new bloggers on Luxshop4u

Natalie: Congratulations on your success!

Kassandra: Thank you!  It has been a journey but I do not consider myself successful just yet. I enjoy working towards my goals and excited to see the outcome.

Natalie: Kassie, I would like to start off by telling you how proud I am of you! I watched you grow into a beautiful and talented photographer!

Kassandra: Awe, thank you so much, I really appreciate it. It’s especially great when people I’ve known from birth can see my growth. Congratulations on your success, I see you are killing the fashion!

Natalie: Thank you!  It was pretty exciting to win the Wardrobe Stylist Award for the Boston 2017 Fashion Awards.  All those years of walking the walk and talking the talk paid off!
Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best photographer!  What’s the key to taking great photos?  Richard is always yelling via text message for me to wipe my lens!

Kassandra:  Hmmm?  If you are talking about a good selfie it’s honestly all about intentions and what you want to say to the viewer.  To have a well lit photograph just make sure you have sufficient light especially with phone photos.  Know your angles! Its always a good idea to practice at anything you do so you can become camera ready at any moment.  When I take portraits I have to quickly access another persons personality and their angles so I can capture their best self. Most importantly just have fun and make sure objects are in focus.  lol

The Metamorphosis Series, was a painful selfie! Kassandra was running back and forth to press the shutter and then pose!

Natalie: How did you get into photography?

Kassandra:  I’ve always been influenced by the arts starting out mostly in dance and drawing. My mother studied fashion design so she was a big influence in my love for art. Growing up my family loved taking photographs and every event would be documented.  I dived more into it in high school when my uncle would shoot video and he would make me shoot behind the scenes. I was good at it so I stuck with it and started to learn and practice everything I can about photography.

Natalie: What’s the correct way for someone to find their light?

Kassandra: When in doubt think of the light as the sun.  For the most part to the side and up will give you good lighting.

Natalie: During New York Fashion Week 2018 Fall/Winter many bloggers will be out taking photos during the shows.  What tips can you recommend for capturing the perfect visual?

Kassandra: Theres so much visually stimulating fashion and backdrops during fashion week that I would suggest trying to find a balance between everything.  Aim for lots of color and arrange objects so it’s not a clutter.  Don’t be scared to experiment and have fun while capturing!

Natalie: What’s your go to look  to wear on set?

Kassandra: Hahaha, I always like to be comfortable.  Jeans and a tee are my go to when I’m shooting.  Theres a lot of bending and weird positions I get myself into while shooting, so its best to wear things that stretch and has good circulation.

Natalie: Are you receiving a lot of Bookings for Christmas?

Kassandra: I took a bit of a break this Christmas.  I used my time to catch up on some retouching and working on some personal projects.

Natalie: For photo shoots what colors do you recommend for backdrops?

Kassandra: It all depends on the mood. You can never go wrong with the basic shades white, grey and black.  I love to experiment and olive green and canary yellow are on my shot list these days.

Natalie: How do you coach someone to create the right shot?

Kassandra: People are more comfortable when they are treated like a friend.  If I have time on sets while models are doing their hair and make-up I try and get to know them a bit.  This helps especially for new models, so that way when its time to shoot they develop a comfort level and it gives me a chance to see their character a little.  It’s important to let them know there is now wrong pose. That awkward move might be something great on camera, and it makes them open up some more when they can laugh at themselves.

Natalie: What’s a reasonable price that you advise photographers to charge bloggers?

Kassandra: I can’t suggest a price but I do know communication is key for business relationships.  Everyone needs to know their worth and be paid reasonably and fairly.  Negotiate prices and working something out so that way everyone is good with the outcome.

Vacation in Cuba

Natalie: Any recommendations on how to select a photographer?

Kassandra: Do your research and look at their portfolio.  If you feel their style matches you then reach out to them and see if it’s a good fit.  Don’t just grab the first person because you think its a cheaper price. I have had a lot of people do that and then come to me because they were unhappy with the photos they received from somewhere else.

Natalie: I am thankful to have you share your wealth of knowledge with the Luxshop4u community.  Let fashion and creative lovers everywhere know how they can book you for Fashion  show’s, music album photos shoots, etc.

Kassandra: Thank you for having me!  I can be reached by email : tomlinson.kassandra@gmail.com  IG : kass.wt  website : www.kassandrat.com

Much love to the Tomlinson Family Happy Holidays

Cruel Summer

I wanted to create what I did not see.  I remember uttering these words in 2015 while dining in the Blue Bangkok restaurant on Boylston Street in Boston.  My friend Dean Nights and I discussed my busy life of pulling clothes for VIP’s and creating a total lifestyle experience that included fine dining and clubbing for the VIP’s  all while I attended my full time job. During this time I needed and refered services to some of the people in this post for nails, hair, and graphics.  I told Dean that I wanted a place where my talented friends like him and myself could be highlighted.  So here we are with this mega post for the month of August. (Dean Knights is a tailor to the stars and aristocrats.)

I present to you the talented professionals in my circle with experience that ranges from music, graphic design, fashion and beauty who are making a difference in their respective fields.

Jorge Milliano

You know his chart topping hits and the star studded artists who he’s worked with.  Since our last post (read La Musica Part 2)  Jorge flew back to Miami to produce a song for J Balvin Featuring Jowell Y Randy.  Spring 2017 Jorge and I kept on telling each other that it is going to be a cruel summer because our schedules were booked.  My schedule consisted of styling, consultations, scouting locations for designers and clothes for the talent that I work with and for Jorge it was a back to back summer of producing.  Just last week one of his dreams came true recently by working with Jamaican reggae legend General Degree.  Expect to hear new music from General Degree, Mr. Phillip’s EPK and Jorge’s Vertigo Album later on this year.

La Musica Part 2 El Tiempo Es Ahora Jorge Milliano

Reggeaton’s new rising star

El Tiempo Es Ahora (the time is now) is an encouraging reminder that Jorge and I say to each other to level up in our careers. Jorge produced your favorite songs that you are currently dancing to like Palitos by Tego Calderon, Ámame O Mátame remix by Ivy Queen featuring Don Omar! Jorge Milliano is an international music producer/song writer that is based in Boston. He spent many years paying his dues in the music industry.  I am confident that he will receive accolades in the near future.

Jorge like most of my friends in the Music/Entertainment Industry learned how to play instruments in the church, specifically percussions.  He is known for his star studded collaborations and despite his success Jorge is very humble.  He is eager to make an impact in the world.  No talking, texting, or hanging out to have cocktails is the code that he lives by.  The succesful producer is too focused on securing the bag and attending business meetings with the worlds finest music engineers, artists, and Ceo’s.

Since our last sit down on La Musica part 1, Jorge Milliano and the Milliano Music Group traveled to Bogotá, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Miami, for video shoots and music productions.  In May,  he gave me the heads up that he was going to produce a Remix to Ivy Queen’s Ámame O Mátame featuring Don Omar.  We had a conversation of how he was going to approach the track by tying in Rockers from the past and fusing it in with current rhythms. I am hoping that this remix will be available on itunes soon, in the mean time please visit Ivy Queen and Jorge Milliano’s instagram page to hear the track!  Also be sure to check out Tego Calderon’s new music & video titled Palitos  that was produced by Jorge Milliano.

A message from Jorge

I am excited to announce that while I do not have a  current date available for my CD compilation, I’m in the process of getting the mastered release soon.  I am also working on a six track EP based off of Vertigo (Genre for the EP is Moombahton)

Check out a few of the published music and artist who Jorge has worked with thus far.

Nací Para Amartè  featuring Jowell & Randy  was produced last year, please visit Ivy Queen’s Instagram page to listen to her new remix of Ámame O Mátame featuring Don Omar was also produced by Jorge Milliano.

*Side note

I learned about Tego Calderon and Rude Gyal Ivy Queen from my older brother Super K many years ago when I lived in Toronto, it’s amazing how life comes full circle!  Tego is one of Ken’s favorite reggeaton artist and Ivy Queen is my favorite,  her music is hotta than 21 Peppa seed (Habanero)!
