My Vacation in Jamaica

After a busy week of freelance work for my Luxhshop4u Styling service, Promotion for Music artists and hosting the Back Bay Bra Run sponsored by Puma I was off jet setting in Toronto and Jamaica to visit my family!  I am of Jamaican heritage both of my parents are from Clarendon.  I previously shared with you my father’s tailoring career in Kingston Jamaica and my mom who use to work in a bakery in Kingston!  I grew up listening to stories of Port Royal, Lovers Leap, Tivoli Garden, Mt. Airy (My dad was born there) and Silent Hill ( mommy’s place of birth)!  It was so good to spend time in the land off my parents birth during Jamaica’s Independence, we stayed in the country with family instead of a resort, my phone was off due to not having any wifi service!

Please enjoy!

We arrived on August 3rd, 3 days before Independence.  On Monday August 6th Jamaica celebrated  it’s 56th anniversary.  We spent the day eating, laughing and watching my mom and her sister dance to the ska music that was aired on TVJ’s Independence documentary.  My mom often reminisces about her childhood days!  She was not allowed to go out to parties but, she somehow managed to get to one particular Ska dance party that got her into a lot of trouble when she got back home!

Views from my moms childhood home!

We drove miles for to enjoy the ocean view and to select the fresh catch!

My outfit was very simple!  I needed a robe to protect my skin I receive a terrible reaction when I am in the sun too long!  I didn’t shop for this vacation I decided to wear what I owned!

My mom ordered Steamed Fish and Okra and I had the jerk lobster tails!

Fisherman provide fresh seafood daily for the Little Ochie restaurant.

The next day we drove from Clarendon to a Beach in Ocho Rios.

Driving around Christiana and saw this promotional vehicle promoting dances!  When I was in Farren I also saw a medical promotional vehicle!  Great marketing idea!

I forgot which aunt or uncle provided this Jack Fruit that grew on their land!

La Musica Part 2 El Tiempo Es Ahora

Reggeaton’s new rising star

Hey you, yes you! Do you know  who produced your favorite songs that you are currently  dancing to like Palitos by Tego Calderon, Ámame O Mátame remix by Ivy Queen featuring Don Omar! Look no further, his name is Jorge Milliano and he is an international music producer/song writer that is based in Boston.  El Tiempo Es Ahora (the time is now) is an encouraging reminder that we say to each other to level up in our careers.  He spent many years paying his dues in the music industry.  I am confident that he will receive accolades in the near future.

Jorge like most of my friends in the Music/Entertainment Industry learned how to play instruments in the church, specifically percussions.  He is known for his star studded collaborations and despite his success Jorge is very humble.  He is eager to make an impact in the world.  No talking, texting, or hanging out to have cocktails is the code that he lives by.  The succesful producer is too focused on securing the bag and attending business meetings with the worlds finest music engineers, artists, and Ceo’s.

Since our last sit down on La Musica part 1, Jorge Milliano and the Milliano Music Group traveled to Bogotá, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Miami, for video shoots and music productions.  In May,  he gave me the heads up that he was going to produce a Remix to Ivy Queen’s Ámame O Mátame featuring Don Omar.  We had a conversation of how he was going to approach the track by tying in Rockers from the past and fusing it in with current rhythms. I am hoping that this remix will be available on itunes soon, in the mean time please visit Ivy Queen and Jorge Milliano’s instagram page to hear the track!  Also be sure to check out Tego Calderon’s new music & video titled Palitos  that was produced by Jorge Milliano.

La Musica Part 1

Two music enthusiasts talk about their love for music while Natalie from Luxshop4u plays her favorite songs from her iTunes selection.  In the past Natalie’s love for music has afforded her the opportunity to suggest her favorite 1970s songs to a Grammy nominated artist for his show.  Producer Extraordinaire Jorgie Milliano worked with several chart topping latin artist.

Billy Paul’s song Let the Dollar Circulate is playing in the background the horn and drum section sparks curiosity.

Natalie: Que Pasa mi amigo?  What is this sound that I am hearing?  This drum pattern is bananas!  Diga me, Analog vs Digital?

Jorge: Analog, the benefit of using analog is the pure sound that you hear.  There are several takes in today’s market, Music Executives want music produced rapido.  The negative side to this is that digital is pre recorded and the drum kits sound the same.  I would not recommend it.

Natalie: Ok, listen to this Foundation Roots by Patrick Kelly!  What is this echo that I am hearing?  I have heard it on many of my dads foundation 45 albums. *Foundation is a term that we use for classic older reggae music.

Jorge: It’s called dub platting analog delay.  Dub delays do not necessarily need to be on the keys or instrument, it can also be on the vocals.

We are currently listening to Funky Kingston by Toots & The Maytals

Natalie: Tell me about this guitar technique!

Jorge: The technique is Called guitar skin it is prevalent in ska music.

Natalie: Danny Woods formerly of The Chairmen of The Board and The Showmen is a Cammy awards recipient.  During his time performing over 40 years with the Chairmen of the Board they enjoyed success on the Billboard Music charts and they were also inducted to the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.  Give me just a little more time was sampled by Kylie Minogue. On his solo album Aries the song Two can be Lonely is one of my favorite songs by him. How can we turn this into a club banger?  My husband is from Detroit and we listened to a lot of Jit music.  There is a song that samples Godzilla with the Detroit Techno I think that the beginning of the Godzilla rhythem the songs horn section would sound amazing on Two can be lonely if it is looped the right way!  What do you think?

Jorge: Nat, thats awesome!  EDM’s can be created its called sampling!  How do you even know this terminology?

Natalie: I just know what I like and it makes sense to me.

Mary J.Blige Be Happy is now playing

Natalie: Man I am obsessed with the flutes I think Chuckie Booker was on the flutes!

Jorge: You are listening to Pan flutes! Flutes can also be simulated on a keyboard.  Nat, this is great we need to do this again!

Natalie: Let’s reconvene but this time we will focus on your music!

Jorge: Let’s do it!
